Dear Briant, We used ZymaDerm on our daughter's molluscum last year, with lesions primarily on the face, lips, neck, and shoulders. There were numerous lesions ranging in size from 1mm to 4mm, with dozens of pinpoint lesions on the trunk and extremities. We only treated the larger mollusca and the lesions were 100% resolved after about 10 weeks, and there has been no recurrence. We were a little concerned that as a very dark-skinned African-American she might be left with pink scars at the treatment sites, but in fact the pigmentation is beautifully smooth, even-toned and keloid free. I tried photographing the largest two treatment areas, but the photos did not turn out well at all which is unfortunate as the results we saw were quite dramatic. Thank you. What to expect from a Molluscum Outbreak
The Molluscum Contagiosum Virus (MCV) is the source of a skin disease that generally causes groups or clusters of a few lesions. The diagnosis of MCV is made by a physician (often a pediatrician in the case of a child, or a dermatologist for adults) based on medical history and the appearance of the lesions. There are no tests specifically needed for the diagnosis of MCV.
Once the diagnosis of molluscum contagiosum virus has been determined, the treatment options are varied. Consideration is given to the child's overall health status, age, and medical history. Since the viral condition will eventually run its course, depending on the extent of the skin disease, the choice may be to just leave it alone.
